Primary health care is the entry level to the health system and, as such, is usually a person’s first encounter with health care. It includes a broad range of activities and services, from health promotion and prevention, to treatment and management of acute and chronic conditions. Your primary healthcare practitioner is usually your regular GP, who provides comprehensive and ongoing general medical care, but you may have several primary health professionals you see regularly including for example, a dentist, a community pharmacist, counsellor, dietitian, osteopath, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health worker, or physiotherapist etc.
